The Kadamzhay
antimony deposit is situated in the South-Ferghana Hg-Sb belt which
extends from the Nikolaev Line to the Alai Valley. The South-Ferghana
belt was identified by D.I. Shcherbakov in 1926, when the South-Ferghana
Expedition of the Soviet Acadamy of Sciences discovered the Kadahzhay
(Sb), Khaidarkan (Hg) and Symap (Hg) deposits. The distinct specialization
of the upper mantle in this region pre-determined the abundance of
rare metal deposits here (Sb, Hg, Pb-Zn) with minor gold mineralization.
The belt's largest
deposits are Kadamzhay (antimony) and Khaidarkan (mercury). That is
where world-class extraction facilites were built. It is indeed sad
to see that the world markets for these metals do not leave these
plants any chance for survival. They are doomed for complete halt
and decay, as it was with the Kan base metal mine.
